Mat Kilau has the characteristic of a leader and because of it he is well known and well respected. the way he think thing is m=in more mature way because when he think of something, he think as a whole. during october 1888, Hugh Clifford personally came to negotiate with him. this show that Clifford believe in Mat Kilau. he was respected not because of his status as the son of Tok Gajah but because of his honesty. Mat Kilau has many follower such as Awang Nong, Teh Ibrahim, Mat Kelubi, Mat Ali (khatib), Awang (Imam), and Mat Tahir. they were ready to live and die with Mat Kilau.
